Bucerias is situated on the north shore of Banderas Bay, and just 10 miles north
of the Puerto Vallarta airport. Bucerias, meaning "place of the divers", is a small
coastal village reminiscent of the Puerto Vallarta of years long past.
The town square has its large white church and spire as custom in most Mexican
towns. This is the cultural and religious center of town.
There are abundant restaurants to choose from in Bucerias. Some of the
favorites are located in 'El Centro' or the heart of town, and along the beach
with open beach front seating. You will find tastes for every palate. Don't
forget to try the local ice cream from the downtown shops and Churros from
the street vendor.
Bucerias has many shops and its own 'Mercado de Artesanias', a square block of
merchants and vendors selling local goods and souvenirs. You will find everything
from art, silver jewelry, leather shoes, and t-shirts to tequila and more!
Most of Bucerias still has it's charming cobblestone streets. Walking along the
streets or beaches of this town is very safe day and night. The residents of the
town are very friendly to travelers and will respond to polite greetings and
questions.
There is a taxi stand in downtown Bucerias and at the south end of town on Las
Palmas street to accommodate travel here and to surrounding areas. The bus
system is also very convenient and an inexpensive method of transportation on the
highway that runs by town.
